The 10th was organized in Mobile 1 Mar 1861. It reorganized at Corinth, 15 Mar 1862. Battles: Santa Rosa Island, Monterey Tn, Mickey's Ridge, Farmington Road, Corinth, took possession of Louisville and Nashville Railroad, Munfordville, Perryville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta Campaign, Lickskillet Road, Jonesboro, Snake Creek Gap, Columbia, Franklin, Nashville, Carolinas. They surrendered 26 Apr 1865 and paroled at Greensboro, N.C.
Note: Santa Rosa Island, Fl is now called Okaloosa Island, and is a barrier reef located south of Pensacola. Fort Pickens was built there, of brick, between 1829-1834, and was used during the Mexican war. In 1861 it was held by Union forces. On 8 Jan 1861 a group of local men tried to take the Fort, and it is believed that the shots that were fired in this skirmish were the first known shots fired in the Civil War. The Confederates were never able to take the Fort, and it remained in Union hands throughout the war. - Rhonda
