Entered into rest on Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at University Hospital, Mr. Gene Marchman, 65, of Brown Road, Hephzibah, beloved husband of Mrs. Bobbie Burch Marchman, father of Kristi Marchman and the son of the late Pete and Mattie Sue Marchman. Additional survivors include his sister, Kate Thigpen of Augusta; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Starling-Hatcher Funeral Home on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. interment will follow in Hephzibah City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenny Stewart, Chris Josey, Ricky Askew, Randy Askew, Bill Johnson, Ronnie Hammett, Lamar Burch, and Keith Washington.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Henry Hutcheson, Larry Reese,
Ronnie Newman, Ryan Washington, Jimmy Prince, William D. Johnson, James Marchman, Jimmy and Neal Askew. Mr. Marchman, a native of White Plains, Georgia, had lived in Sandersville before moving to Augusta in 1952.
He was a mechanic at the Post Exchange Garage at Fort Gordon. His family said, "HE was a friend to everyone and was loved by all." Friends may call at the residence and the family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 p.m., at the Starling-Hatcher Funeral Home, Augusta Chronicle-June 8, 2001.
