He ordained as one of the Ruling Elders of the Brick Presbyterian Church of Manhattan in March of 1823.
He was a very religious man whose last words were,
"A guilty, weak and helpless worm, On thy kind arms I fall."
But here is voice faltered and all he could say to his weeping wife and daughter,
"Finish -- finish it!"
They added,
"Be thou my strength and righteousness, My Jesus and my all!"
In addition to Mary Cotton, Horace was also married to Bathsheba Sanford 1793-1820 and Catherine Plant Judson 1805-1886.
