Thomas Leon Bass was born on April 17th, 1870, in Latta, South Carolina, the son of Captain James W. Bass and Lucy Moody. He was employed as a merchant in Latta, South Carolina, and later moved to Lakeland, Florida, where he was engaged in selling Real Estate.
He was married 1st to Miss Beulah McCall of Marlboro County, South Carolina, who died of tuberculosis in 1901, from this couple there was born one child (Oscar Earle Bass).
A second marriage followed to Miss Emma Gulledge who died shortly after their marriage.
His third, and final marrige, was to Miss Caroline Denny McQueen on October 28th, 1914, and the couple had three children (Essie Barbara, Marion, and Thomas Leon Jr.).
Thomas Leon Bass died on December 20th, 1930, in Lakeland, Florida, his remains were brought home to Latta, South Carolina, for burial and he lays peacefully at the Bass Family Cemetery in that city.
The following description was written about T. Leon Bass in the "History of Marion County, South Carolina.:" "T. Leon Bass married Miss Beulah McCall; has only one child, a son (O.E. Bass), resides at Dillon, is a dispenser of liquor, under the law,and is also merchandising; he is apparently doing well; sober and a very pleasant gentleman and highly respectable, except so far as the odium which attaches to liquor sellers affects him."
(The above was written by a great-great grandchild he never meet, and who never meet him, but who cherish's the memory of his Great Great Grandfather.)
