VERNON - Emma Lura (Look) Caster, age 93, went home to be with God Sunday afternoon. She passed away at Oneida Extended Care Facility Sunday afternoon with her daughter at her bed side.
Emma was born on Oct. 3, 1919 in Sandy Creek, N.Y., the daughter of Albert and Hazel Look. She was united to James H. Caster on May 28, 1938. He passed away in May of 2001. They had been married 63 years.
Emma was a wonderful mother and a loving and devoted wife. She took great pride in caring for her family, preparing wonderful meals and keeping a beautiful home. Her family and friends will remember how much she enjoyed gardening, especially pulling "those darned old weeds." She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew her. In her later years she was blessed to have a very close and caring friend, Ed Pekola. Everyone who knew them thought how sweet it was that they could share time together in the afternoons playing cards and drinking a glass of wine together.
Emma is survived by her sons, Edward J. Caster and his wife Nancy, their children Michelle and Tim, and James A. Caster and his wife Eunice and their children Jim and Amy, also Jim's children Heidi, Rachel and David Caster and David's wife, Tina. Surviving also is her daughter, Janet Lowry and her husband Ralph and their children, John, Ralph, Pat, and Kathy Lowry, and her youngest daughter, Joy Osborne and her husband William Osborne, and Robert Reed, her deceased daughter's husband. Emma was predeceased by her husband James (Jim) and her daughter Carol Reed who passed away Sept. 5, 2005. The family would like to thank the nurses and the staff at Oneida Extended Care for the care and compassion shown to Emma.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Father William Mesmer at Holy Family Church, Vernon, N.Y. on Friday the 21st at noon. Interment will be at a later date.
