JOSEPH E. AVIS, 68, of Spring Hill died Friday. A native of Logan, W.Va., he moved to this area eight years ago from Huntington, W.Va. He was a retired high school administrator and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines. He was founder of the Mended Hearts 189 in Hernando County, a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Spring Hill, the American Musician Union 362, VFW 1064 and the YMCA board of directors, all in Huntington, a life member of Elks Lodge 313 in Huntington, and former state director of the West Virginia Junior Miss Contest. He is survived by his wife, Anna; and a sister, Cora Marie White of Huntington. Wellwood Funeral Home, Hudson
