Clarence got his start with cattle as a small boy when his father gave him the job of driving range cattle a mile or more from the school section to Elk Creek for water. His father gave him all the cattle he could find with his brand on them. There were a cow and 5 young heifers. He also gave him the brand of the Vbar+, which he used all his life. After he and Jessie married they lived across the road from Elmer [his father's] homestead.
