Mr. Bobby Ray Akins Sr., age 63, died Thursday at the Heritage Inn under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Bryan County native lived most of his life in Bulloch County. He was a member of the Statesboro Church of God and faithfully attended the Johnny Bradley Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Jaycees, the Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce and was a state delegate for the Republican Party of Georgia for over 20 years. He was active in the Bulloch County American Cancer Society, serving many years as a board member and president in 2002. He was a member of the Downtown Development Authority and a member of AA since 1970. Mr. Akins was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Seventh Army Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. He will be remembered for his strong Christian faith and his willingness to always help friends in need. He was a caring brother, friend and a loving, doting father and grandpa. He truly touched the lives of many. He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Gibson Akins; his father, Lewis I. Akins; and a brother, Larry Akins.

The funeral service for Mr. Akins will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Statesboro Church of God with the Rev. Wayne Swanson and Johnny Bradley officiating.

Burial will be in Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.
