Cleve B. McKeehan, a downtown figure for years at the old T.E. Burns Grocery Co. died last night at his home at 2811 Mineral Springs Road.
Mr. McKeehan was 80, and had been ill since suffering a stroke Aug.18. He retired 18 years ago.
Decades before the advent of the neighborhood market, Mr. McKeehan ordered "fancy groceries" from many countries as secretary and buyer at Burns. The store, with its fleet of horse-drawn delivery wagons, was at Wall Avenue and Market Street. Later, he was Burns' president.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. C.B. McKeehan; a daughter, Mrs. Maynard V. Firman, Oak Ridge; sons, Benton McKeehan and Allen, Morrisville, Pa.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. McKeehan was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.
He was a Spanish-American War veteran who served with the Third Tennessee Infantry, was a 32nd degree Mason and at one time was active in Kerbela Temple Shrine.
Services will be held at 10:30a.m. tomorrow at Mann Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The Family will receive friends between 7 and 9 tonight at Mann's.
