Accident Kills Former Resident of Sulphur Mines. Sulphur, La., Aug 8--J.H Howell, formerly an employee of the Union Sulphur company, and until a few years ago a resident of Sulphur Mines, was accidentally killed Sunday morning at 3:30, when a gun which he was carrying while on duty as a watchman in an oil field at Longview, Texas, was discharged when he stumbled and fell. Mr. Howell was 49 years old. He was born at Sugartown. He was for some time a resident of Lake Charles and lived for many years at Sulphur Mines. The deceased is survived by his wife and eight children -- Mrs. Dewey Carlin, of Longview, Texas; Mrs. Drew Ellis, of Baton Rouge; Conrad Howell, of Beaumont, and Beatrice, J.C., Avery, Corbrin and Karl, all of Longview; his mother, Mrs. Alice Howell, of Dry Creek; seven sisters--Mrs. B.E. Young and Mrs. H.H. Harper, of Sugartown; Mrs. S.F. Self, of DeQuincy; Mrs. F.P. Huckabay, of Port Arthur; Miss Drue Howell, Mrs. J.G. Stanley, and Mrs. Ben S. Ryan, all of Lake Charles; and three brothers, W.E. Howell, of Beaumont; N.R. Howell, of DeRidder and Charles A. Howell of Dry Creek. The body will be brought to Lake Charles and the funeral held here at the residence of Ben S. Ryan, East Broad Street, Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock. Rev. W.J. Westberry, pastor of the Baptist church at Sulphur, will officiate. Burke & Trotti will be in charge. Knights of Pythias, of which order deceased was a member, will attend.
