SSG E5. KIA. 3rd Squadron, 4th Calvary, 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall: Panel 31W, Line 090. Killed in the same action was SFC George Frederick Evans (1932-1969).
SSG Curttright was awarded the Silver Star-the citation reads as follows: The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal (Posthumously) to Larry Brent Curttright (19874334), Staff Sergeant, United States Army, for gallantry in action on 28 February, 1969, while serving as a platton sergeant with B Troop, 3d Squadron, 4th Calvary, 25th Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam. While on a reconnaissance in force mission in a suspected stronghold, elements of B Troop came in contact with a large enemy force in well concealed positions. Immediately, Staff Sergeant Curttright led his men in an assault of the hostile positions. With complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Curttright exposed himself to the hail of fire as he placed devastating fire on the aggressors. As he continued his assault on the enemy positions, Sergeant Curttright was fatally wounded by a rocket propelled grenade. His valarous action contributed immesasurably to the success of the mission and the thwarting of a hostile force. Sargeant Curttright's bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army. SSGT Curttright was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal and First Oak Leaf Cluster (both posthumously) for prior actions.
