Mrs. Agnes Erbe, 91, formerly of 2215 Wisconsin Ave., New Holstein, died Friday at the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, where she had been a resident since January, 1974.

The former Agnes Rather was born in Calumetville on July 9, 1885, a daughter of Franklyn and Augusta Schmidt Rather. She attended the town of Calumet District School. She was married to Louis Erbe on Feb. 1, 1907 in New Holstein. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1957. Mr. Erbe died Nov. 1, 1960.

Mr. and Mrs. Erbe were co-founders of the now Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home and Furniture Store, New Holstein, in the early 1900’s. The furniture portion of the business was sold in 1972.

She was a member of St. John United church of Christ, New Holstein and the New Holstein Calumet Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Luella Evjen, New Holstein, and Mrs. Milton (Rachel) Berg, LaCrosse; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a half-brother, Franklyn Rather, Manitowoc.

Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home, the Rev. Albert K. Borns, pastor of St. John UCC, Officiating. Burial will be in the New Holstein Cemetery.
