Birth: Jan. 27, 1759
York County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jun. 14, 1842
Orange County
Indiana, USA

Born John Heinrich Shively. He was the son of Johann Michael Shively and Christina. The father left his home country of Germany and made his way to America in 1738. During the Rev. War Henry Shively served in the Lancaster Co., PA milita. Henry along with his brothers were early pioneers of Kentucky, arriving there in 1780/1781.

Henry's son John M. Shively wrote the folowing:
"It was at Brownsville, PA that my father first fell in with Daniel Boone, who induced this Brownsville settlement to emigrate to Kentucky. The parties that came to Kentucky were Christian Shively, Henry Shively, and Jacob Shively and one other brother who was killed by Indians in Henry County, KY. My father settled at the Falls of the Ohio and they were comparatively secure, when Boone visited them and persuaded them to emigrate to Danville, KY to help strengthen the settlement there, but poor was the day, when they took his advise. Boone was leading them when they were surrounded on a stream called Benson, in Henry County, a greater portion of them were massacred by the Indians. Here one of my father's brothers was captured [and killed]. In this vicinity, they also ambushed a brother of my mother's. His name was Banta."

Between 1815 and 1830 some of the Henry Shively family moved from Shelby Co., Kentucky to Orange Co., IN. The Shively's were extremely instrumental in helping start many of the churches in the area.

OBITUARY; From The True American (Paoli, IN) June 18, 1842. "Died at the residence of Michael Mavity, on June 14, 1842, Mr. Henry Shively, aged 82 years. He emigrated to Kentucky at an early age.
