Death Of Paul Welton Here Ruled A Suicide
The death of Paul E. Welton, 35, 1202 W. Budlong St. who was found at 11:27 p.m. Saturday at his home, has been ruled a suicide by Jasper County Coroner Dr. Wendell Fuhr. Welton shot self in the head with a high powered rifle according to investigating officers.
Welton reportedly was despondent over the death of his wife who died May 30 of injuries received in a car accident.
Born Aug. 20, 1942, in Carthage, he was a 1960 graduate of Carthage High School and was a foreman at L.D. Schreiber Cheese Company. He was a member of the First Christian Church and past master of Carthage Masonic Lodge No. 197 AF & AM. He was married to Linda Kay Haines, July 13, 1962, in Carthage.
Surviving are two daughters Miss Debra Welton and Miss Kemberlee Welton of the home; a son Paul Welton Jr., also of the home; his stepfather and mother Mr. and Mrs. Albert Helton, 913 Valley St. three sisters Miss Mary Ann Welton, National City, Calif.; Mrs. Sandra Hooker, Jackson, Wyo., and Mrs. Patricia Reynolds, Joplin, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Hodge, 709 Clinton St.
Graveside services were conducted this afternoon at Park Cemetery. Bob Lyttle, minister, officiated. Burial was under direction of The Knell Mortuary.
Pallbearers were Emmet Poindexter, Danny Woolever, Dave Stockham, Leonard Doss, Mitch Stephens and Chester McBride.
