Clifford P. Adams , veteran, auto dealership operator
Clifford P. Adams of Athol, a World War II veteran and dealer-operator of Fredette Chevy Buick, died June 7, at Quabbin Valley Health Care in Athol. He was 84.

Born and raised in Athol, Mr. Adams was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Athol High School in 1939 and Cushing Academy in 1940. He attended St. John's Prep School, but he left to operate his first business.

Mr. Adams enlisted in the Marines in December of 1942, serving during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged in November 1945 as a staff sergeant.

He operated his first business, the former Koffee Kup Donuts in Athol, after leaving St. John's Prep. After his military service, he joined the family car dealership, Ernest T. Fredette, Inc., in Athol, where he became manager of the Dodge, Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in 1964. He was awarded a Chevrolet Buick franchise in 1967 as dealer operator of Fredette Chevy Buick. He retired in 1981.

Mr. Adams was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church, where he was past president of the church council and a founding member of the Holy Name Society. He had taught CCD for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post 102 in Athol and numerous other civic organizations.

He enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling with his wife. He was accomplished in many sports throughout his life, but especially enjoyed competitive golf. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gidge (Fredette); four daughters, Debbie Kelly of Weston, Sally Ryder of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Marylou Perry of Stoughton and Katie Campion of Orange; two sons, Larry of Athol and Mike of Tewksbury, and 17 grandchilren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol.

Burial with military honors was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
