Birth: Mar. 30, 1987
Death: Mar. 6, 2009

Rachel Kate Joiner, 21, unexpectedly joined the Lord along with her beloved brother, Travis, on Friday, March 6, 2009. She was born March 30, 1987, in San Angelo, Texas. Rachel was a beautiful young lady with a happy spirit and glowing smile. She was full of life and always ready for the next adventure. She freely gave of her time, talents and money to those in her circle of life. She was comfortable being her own person and didn't mind standing alone. Her joy was complete in her role as both big and little sister to the brothers she adored. Rachel grew up in Eldorado, Texas. She loved life on the farm, especially the peace and solitude that country life offered. She loved and nurtured all the animals including pets, strays and wildlife. Cats were her favorite and she was always prepared for just one more. As a little girl and into her elementary years she enjoyed dancing, dressing up for dance recitals, gymnastics, school and rides in the toy jeep with her big brother. Rachel was very close with both sets of grandparents. The time and love they gave her when she was young was returned to them as they grew older. In junior high and high school she enjoyed art, music and reading. She participated in basketball, track, one act play, band, and the youth group at the First United Methodist Church. The high jump was a large part of Rachel's life. She trained relentlessly and was a record holder and state contender. She also placed second in the nation when she jumped with the Junior Olympic program. She received many honors for her outstanding achievements in high school including being named salutatorian of her 2006 graduating class. Her next adventure took her to Texas Christian University on a track scholarship to continue competing in high jump, which was her passion. It was in Ft. Worth that she also learned to love the city life where she enjoyed going to clubs and dancing with her friends. After one year, Rachel transferred to Texas A&M University to continue her studies in geology and to be near her big brother. Even though her beautiful life and dreams were tragically cut short, her greatest adventure, just now beginning, will take her safely forever into the arms of the Lord she loved. Rachel is survived by her loving parents, Wayne and Shirley Joiner; by her little brother, Evan; and her grandparents, Raymond Wilson and Lula Mae Joiner. She is also survived by her uncles, Rick Wilson and wife Mary Ann; John Wilson and wife Sonya; Steve Wilson and wife Suzan; John Paul Joiner and wife Cynthia; and Aunt Wally Leaverton and husband Clay; as well as a host of cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Betty Wilson; and grandfather, Wallace Joiner

She was a victim of murder as was her brother Travis Wilson Joiner
