Charles Criswell, a native of Oklahoma, was one of 10 children. He had lived in Hanford for 20 years. Mr. Criswell devoted 30 years to teaching, retiring in 1974 as a teacher for the Lakeside School District special education classes. After retirement he spent much of his spare time with his rock collecting hobby. Prior to coming to Hanford, Mr. Criswell taught in the New Mexico public school systems for 23 years, devoting his attention to coaching football, teaching drivers' education and general science. In 1948-49, he was chosen Football Coach of the Year for the Tucumcari High School Rattlers. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Hanford Rock Club and the Masonic Lodge. He became a member of the Hanford United Methodist Church by Certificate of Transfer from Center Street Methodist Church, Tucumcari, New Mexico May 3, 1970. He was active in the United Methodist Men.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Lou Dougherty and Jackie Sue Davidson. He was preceded in death in 1982 by his wife, the former Charlotte Sue Conley whom he married December 25, 1936 in Logan County, Arkansas.
