Veteran of WWII

Charles was the son of Uncas Charles and Sarah Jane (Hodgson) Bock, a pioneer Kings County family. He graduated from Hanford High School in 1923. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He went into the Army in October, 1942, training at Camp Kohler and at Camp Murphy, Florida, in radar repair and maintenance. As a sergeant, he was in the campaigns for New Guinea and the Philippines, for which he was entitled to wear two bronze stars. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Charles was one who found joy in construction of homes and buildings throughout the community and county. He was an area contractor and completed his first houses in Hanford when he was 18. He was a member of of the First United Methodist Church in Hanford and the contractor for the construction of the new education wing at the church. Survivors included his wife, the former Ruth Campbell; two sisters, Barbara Bock and Jennette Eberle, and a stepson, James Orr.
