MUSCATINE, Iowa – Elna Sofya Eis, 89, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Muscatine Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Richard Scheibenecker of the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church will officiate the service. Honorary casket bearers will be Commander Ryan Brookhart and Rebecca Reichert. Casket bearers will be Ray Arp, Leon Arp, Dean Arp, Melissa Brookhart, Nathan Reichert and Darwin Riessen. Burial will be in Parr Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church or Muscatine Relay for Life. Elna is a 1972 breast cancer survivor.
Elna was born on February 6, 1919, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Arthur G. and Ella Duge Eis.
She worked as a painter and also hung wall paper. She was also a farmer and was well known as the "Egg Lady".
Elna was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Presbyterian Church. For many years she served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School, served as choir director, and worked as church custodian. She also served as a Trustee and Elder. After the church closed, she became a member of the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church, joining Presbyterian Women serving as treasurer. She served as a church Elder. In her earlier years she was active in 4H achieving county and statewide honors. She was also a former member of Business and Professional Women/Muscatine.
The greatest joys in Elna's life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Reichert and husband, E. Karl, of Muscatine; two grandchildren, Melissa Sue Brookhart and husband, Commander Ryan Brookhart, and Nathan Reichert and wife, Rebecca; four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Elaina Brookhart and Simon and Spencer Reichert; and one sister, Reba Ratel of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Coryne.
