Mr. Donnie Elbert "Don" Baxter, 76, of Bartlesville, died at 6:30 A.M. on Wednesday March 14, 2012 in Bartlesville.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2012, in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. David Hammonds of Adams Boulevard Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established and those who wish to make a contribution in memory of Mr. Baxter may do so to: St. Jude's Children's Research Center 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee
Donnie Elbert Baxter was born May 25, 1935 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Alvie Preston and Tennessee Mae (Wright) Baxter. He grew up and received his early education in Holdenville, graduating high school there in 1953. Don entered the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served active duty until receiving his honorable discharge in 1958. He then served in the U.S. Air Force reserve until 1962. Don was married to Ava Annette Ashley on February 2, 1958 at Holdenville, Oklahoma. After his military service he moved back to Oklahoma. Don worked at numerous endeavors until purchasing his own business, Rainbow Carpet Service from 1989 until his retirement in 2002.
Survivors include two sons; David Baxter and his wife Alicia of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Don Arlen Baxter of West Monroe, Louisiana; one daughter Donna Ruth Lacey and her husband Don of Bartlesville; the mother of his children Annette Baxter; two brothers Doyle Baxter of Marianna Arkansas and Pete Baxter of Rolla, Missouri; four grandchildren Melody Renee Baxter, Natalee Elizabeth Baxter, Brittany Dawn Baxter and Sierra Dezirea VanPelt; one great-grandchild Amelia Dudley; one step-grandchild Donnie Ray Lacey Jr.; four step-great-grandchild Jennifer Renee Lacey, Jessica Dawn Lacey, Juliana Marie Lacey and Amanda Jo Lacey and one step-great-great-grandchild Merridy Ruth Robinson. Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Tommy Baxter and Allan Baxter and three sisters Hazel Morris, Dorothy Baylis and Lois Rossmann.
