Reburial services were held at the Wirt First Baptist Church Friday for Cpl. Carl J. Hawkins, who was killed in action in Italy Dec. 27, 1943. He was the son of Mrs. Annie Hawkins of Wirt. Rev. Alvis Lindsey conducted the services with burial at Mt. Olive cemetery arranged by Collier Bros.
Pallbearers: Charlie Robinson, Lee Robertson, Vincent Kimberlin, W.H. Tanner, Russell McCreary, and Archie Fry. Military graveside services were by Charles Mix American Legion Post of Healton.
Carl J. Hawkins was born at Wirt, June 28, 1917 and spent his entire life there, attended the Dundee school. He volunteered for service in 1938 and spend part of the time overseas where he was killed in action in Italy Dec. 27, 1943.
Surviving are one son, James Carl Hawkins of Yuma, Arizona, his mother Mrs. Annie Hawkins of Wirt, a sister Mrs. Carl Smith of Odessa, Texas, five brothers, Herbert of Wirt, Roy of Little Rock, Ark., Leslie of Goldsmith, Texas, Gene of the U.S. Navy at Memphis, Tenn., and Jerry Hawkins at home. Out of town relatives and friends for the service: Mrs. Carl Smith and sons Jimmy and Gary of Odessa, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hawkins and bay Sara Ann of Goldsmith, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. McElroy of Duncan, Mrs. and Mrs. Edwin Vinyard and daughter Rachel and Mrs. Tom Ferguson of Oklahoma City. Mrs. W.E. Spears, Miss Fay Spears and Rutherford Spears of Chickasha, Sid Spears of Duncan, Mrs. Marshall Button of Sulphur, and Mrs. Joe Aldridge of Alma.
