Mrs. John S. Barry
Pamelia M. Brown, one of the pioneer residents of this county, was born in Franklin county Mass., September 27, 1827, and was married to John S. Barry on March 19, 1852. Four years thereafter they came west and settled on the farm in Prairie township which was her home continuously from that time--April 1856--until her decease on the 22 last.

She was known and loved by a large circle of friends, had a cheerful disposition and ever a kind word and pleasant greeting for every one. At all times true to her convictions, and faithful to her duties, her influence was always for good.

For the past two years her eye sight gradually failed her and she suffered much. During her illness she often said she had so much to be thankful for, her troubles she could count, but her blessings were like the sands of the sea. Her religious faith sustained her in her last hours, and though perfectly conscious she died as peacefully and quietly as a child falling asleep.

Two sons and one daughter were born to Mr. and Mrs. Barry, the eldest, John S. Barry Jr. died in his early manhood at the age of 24 years, the other son, Charles C., and the daughter, Mrs. Mattie P. Brayton, with whom her mother was staying at the time of her decease, reside on the homestead. She is also survived by a twin sister, Mrs. A. R. Barrett of Saratoga, N.Y. and a half brother, Mr. Frank L. Brown, of Adamsville, Mass.

There was a large attendance at the funeral held at the Sand Creek church, last Monday, Rev. H. W. Tuttle of the city officiating. Interment was at the Sand Creek cemetery. The pall bearers were H. W. Lawrence, King Goodwin, Servey Collard, John Preston, Irwin McCloud, Geo S. Lister, J. R. Dodge and Seth Brown.

Manchester Democrat, November 26, 1902
