Celistia (Bailiff) Boyd, daughter of Eld. Thomas and Malinda Bailiff was born near West York, Ill., February 7, 1863 and died December 6, 1929 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Malinda Sims, Indianapolis, Ind., where she was cared for in her last illness. At the time of her death she had reached the age of sixty-six years, nine months, and twenty-nine days. She was one of a family of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy and nine grew to mature years as follows: Fidelia Boyd, Rhoda Ann Lindley, Charles J. Bailiff, Edward Bailiff, Nancy Jane Nidey, all of whom preceeded her in death. Rev. T. C. Bailiff of West York (Ill.), Mrs. Effie Dehl of West Union, Ill., and Mrs. Malinda Sims of Indianapolis, Ind. In October 1889 she was united in marriage to William W. Boyd, who died on January 20, 1913. She leaves to mourn her departure one brother and two sisters as mentioned above, two stepsons, Bruce Boyd and Allen C. Boyd both of Hutewssonville, Ill. and numerous nieces nephews and other relatives, besides a multitude of devoted friends and neighbors. About eight weeks ago she was injured in an accident near Plainsfield, Ind., and this with other complications which developed she was unable to overcome. Aunt Calistia, as she was known to all who loved her was a friend to all who came in contact with her, and her chief pleasure in life was in serving others, and those who knew her best will miss her most.
The body was brought back to the old home, and funeral services were held at the Bailiff church near West York, Sunday, December 8 at 11:30. The ceremony was conducted by Elder T. J. Wheeler of Robinson. It was attended by a large number of people the burial being made in the cemetery nearby.
Mrs. Celisa Boyd, living in Hutsonville township, died last Friday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Malinda Sims, at Indianapolis. On October 12th, Mrs. Boyd was injured in an automobile accident at Plainsfields, suffering a fractured shoulder, a sever scalp wound and other cuts and bruises. She was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis where she remained for some time, later being taken to the home of her sister where she remained until her death. Her advanced age, she being nearly sixty-seven years of age, caused her injuries to prove more serious than were first thought for.
The body was returned to the old home and funeral services were conducted at the Bailiff Church near West York last Sunday morning, in charge of Eld. T. J. Wheeler of Robinson, and interment was made in the cemetery nearby.
