Mr. Baswell

John Raymond Baswell, 51, Ashville Rt. 1, died Monday in a local hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Luker and Billy Buttram officiating. Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Survivors:wife, Mrs. Doris Baswell;daughter, Mrs. Deane Whorton; son-in-law, Eugene Wharton; grandson, Raymond Keith Wharton; mother, Mrs. Ophelia Baswell, all of Ashville, Rt. 1; brothers Jack Baswell, Ashville, Lewis Baswell, Marion, Ind., Fred Baswell, New Hope; sisters, Mrs. Mildred Payne, Gadsden, Mrs. Julia McDaniel and Mrs. Lorene Bearden, both of Ashville;several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbears;John and Joe Stewart, Arthur Whisenant, Coy Cox, Ray and Henderson Payne and J.D. Robinson. Mr. Baswell was and native and lifelong resident of St. Clair County and was the son of the late Fisher Baswell. He was employed with McDowell, Inc., in construction work.

The body will remain at Collier-Butler Funeral Home and lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.
