Died from an embolism following a minor operation.
Parents: Father: Robert Bruce Brown, was Vice President of the American Manufacturing Company. Mother: Maude Johnson Brown, was from Virginia.

When Margaret was an adult she had a Kerry Blue Terrier named Crispin's Crispian.

In 1935 she worked at Bank Street Cooperative School for student teachers.
In 1937 her writing career with the publication of "When the Wind Blew."
From 1937 to 1952 She published over 100 picture books for children.
In her will, Margaret requested that her body be cremated and her ashes scattered to the sea at her beloved Only House in Maine. A simple rough stone was to mark the site with the words "Margaret Wise Brown, writer of Songs and Nonsense." 
Cremated, Ashes scattered.
