Inspector Timothy Barnes suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after completing physical training at the NCDMV License and Theft Bureau inspector training program.
He was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville after collapsing and passed away a short time later.
Inspector Barnes had served with the NCDMV License and Theft Bureau for only nine weeks. He had previously served with the Nash County Sheriff's Office for 10 years.

A visitation for Mr. Barnes will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010, at Morning Star Church of Christ, 225 Glendale Ave., in Rocky Mount. At other times, the family will receive guests at the residence, 2381 Blue Willow Lane., Rocky Mount, NC. The Homegoing service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Morning Star Church of Christ, 225 Glendale Ave., in Rocky Mount. The interment will take place immediately following the service at St Johns Baptist Church Cemetery in Red Oak.
