Mrs. Roy Smith Dies After Highway Crash

Former Princeton resident is victim Friday evening when car overturns on highway 41 while enroute to this city.

Mrs. Helen Smith, age 22 years, 9 months and 24 days, wife of Roy Smith, C. & E. I. Railway switchman, formerly of this city, but now residing at 724 east Division street, Evansville, died at 4:45 Saturday morning in St. Mary's hospital, Evansville, of injuries sustained about 6:30 Friday evening when a car in which she was riding, overturned on highway 41, near the Pigeon Creek bridge.

Mrs. Smith sustained a fracture of the skull on the left side, her back was said to have been broken and her neck injured.

The body was brought Saturday in the Pfohl funeral car to the Pfohl Funeral Home, south Main street, this city.

Mrs. Smith, formerly Miss Helen HUNT, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. John HUNT, residing two and a half miles southwest of Princeton on the White church road, and Mrs. Clara Wright, with whom the Smiths resided at 724 east Division street, Evansville, were enroute to Princeton Friday evening when the tragedy occurred. Mrs. Wright was driving a light roadster. Information obtained by Mr. Smith, who came here Saturday morning was that the roadster overturned, due to a flat tire.

Mrs. Wright sustained a broken arm, broken leg, cut lip and abdominal injuries. Both were rushed to the St. Mary's hospital in Evansville.

Mrs. Smith is the first death in the membership of the Evansville Eagles Ladies Booster Club, which was organized about a year ago.

Mr. And Mrs. Smith, well known former Princeton residents, had only recently moved to Evansville.

Surviving are the husband, the parents, eight sisters and three brothers, Julia Mae, Hazel Marie, now Mrs. Paul Schmidt; Bessie, now Mrs. Clinton Deig; Martha, Dorothy, Grace, Jo Anne and Polly HUNT; Clarence, George Henry and Jack HUNT.

The body of Mrs. Smith will be taken to the home of the parents, southwest of the city. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at White church with burial in the church cemetery.
