Gilbert Glen Brannan

The funeral service for Gilbert G. (Speedy) Brannan, 60, operator of Speedy's Service and Sales in St. John, was Saturday at the St. John Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Sappington, the Rev. Dan Sailer, and the Rev. Ernest Enloe Officiating. Burial followed at the St. John Cemetery. Mr Brannan died of cancer June 10 at Whitman Community Hospital.
Born Sept 28, 1926, at Orient, to Harold and Gladys Brannan, he lived in Wenatchee several years before moving to Pilot Rock, Ore., where he graduated from high school. He attended Bob Jones University before being inducted into the U.S. Army and serving in the 0Philippines during WWII, Following his discharge, he graduated from Coin Electrical School in Chicago. He farmed in the Pendleton area for a year and was a driver for Consolidated Freight Lines.
The family moved to St.John in 1961, and Mr. Brannan went to work for Ray's Appliance, where he worked until starting his own business, Speedy's Service and Sales, in 1969. He operated the business until his death.
Mr. Brannan was a member of Christian Life Assembly Church in St. John and served on the board of elders since 1968. He was also a member of the washington State Electrical Contractors Association and served as vice president in 1983.
His first marriage was to Geraldine Dawson at Pendleton, Jan 1, 1949. They were later divorced. He married Shirley Schmick at Colfax Aug. 16, 1970.
Survivors include his wife at the family home; his three sons, Richard of Redmond, and Joseph and Terry of Vancouver, Wash; one daughter, Glenda McCarthy of Longview; a step-daughter, Carla Taylor of Oakesdale; one brother, Carl Brannan of Pilot Rock, Ore.; two sisters, Mildred Harrison of Livingston, Mont., and Vella Garrison of Aberdeen, and seven grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be gifts to the charity of the donors choice.
