John D. (Gunny) Adams, 77, died on Saturday, March 28, 1998 at the Livingston Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

Mr. Adams was born on April 23, 1920 in Luverne, Minnesota, the son of Walter M. and Gladys Adams. He received his education in Minnesota and married Lois Yvonne Ledwidge on January 17, 1942 in Fort Lewis, Washington.

He had the distinction of being a veteran in three different wars, WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. While in the U.S. Army during WWII, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. After his service with the U.S. Army he served in the Marine Corps until his retirement in 1966.

He and his wife moved to Livingston in 1985 and had made their home here since. He enjoyed going fishing with his best friend and companion, Alf, his dog. One of his many hobbies was entertaining and cooking for his family, friends and church socials. He was an active member of the Livingston Rodeo Association and was active in Meals on Wheels. He was a 33rd Degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge in Las Vegas, Nevada. He also was a former member of the Park County Rural Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Yvonne (Ledwidge) Adams; two daughters; two sons; one sister; two brothers and three grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service on Wednesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Absaroka Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Rudolph officiating. Organist was Jean Bleken and Pianist was Mary Haug, the soloist was Cheryl Brice.

Members of Livingston Masonic Lodge #32 assisted with graveside services at Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston. Military honors were afforded by Park Post #23, American Legion and Sgt. Tommy Ray Post #2154, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Commander was Bob Weimer. Bugler was Alyce Lewis. Color guard members were Tatsu Saimo, John Hochhalter, Cliff Ford, Herb French, Carl Haemig and Homer Berrum. Firing squad members were Bill Baker, Archie Archambault, Ralph Peterson, Bob Logan, Jerry Johnson, Harvey Mohr, Carlo Ceiri and Travis Chevallier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Park County Rural Fire Department. Arrangements were by Chuck Nicholson.
