Dermot Morgan
Birth: Mar. 31, 1952
Dublin
County Dublin, Ireland
Death: Feb. 28, 1998
Hounslow
London Borough of Hounslow
Greater London, England

Actor, Comedian. Although he recieved a degree in English and Philosophy from University College Dublin, Dermot Morgan started his career as an actor/comedian while at the Drama Club. After two years working as a teacher, Morgan decided to abandon the post and became a stand-up comedian. In 1979, RTE TV introduced Morgan to the Irish viewers with an appearance on "Live Mike" performing as Father Trendy, a catholic priest who was religiously hip. In 1988, he set up his own production company, Cue Productions, and began work on a radio show called "Scrap Saturday." This show lampooned Irish politicians, and allowed him to use his wonderful talent for mimicry. However, RTE decided to cancel the show at the height of its success. This came to Morgan as a explotion, and remained angry for many years. Dermot Morgan returned to stand-up comedy. In 1995, he was cast to play the leading role in a comedy series, "Father Ted," a priest who is sent to a depressing island for financing irregularities and shares the parrish's cottage with a child-like, not-so-intelligent priest, another with a drinking problem, and a complete lunatic housekeeper. "Father Ted" became the highest rating program for Channel 4. Dermot Morgan recieved several awards, including a BAFTA award for best actor in a comedy series. The series has also won many awards including comedy of the year. (bio by: La Yuya)
