Sgt William Cody Eckhart
Birth: Sep. 21, 1978
Medina County
Texas, USA
Death: Apr. 10, 2004
Baghdad, Iraq

Sgt. Eckhart died while serving his country in Iraq. He was in the Army and was stationed in Vilseck, Germany. He was a member of F Troop 4th Calvary, 1st Infantry Division.

When he had come home for the Christmas holidays, he had told his mother that he would be going to Iraq, but he kept the news from the rest of his family so that they would not worry and have a happy Christmas.

At this time, the only information his family has is that he died due to shrapnel to the legs.

Per Cody's obituary: "Survivors include his parents, Ronnie and Terri Eckhart of Rocksprings; grandmother, Dorothy Eckhart of Rocksprings; grandparents, William and Roselyn White of Hondo; sisters, Staci and Erin Eckhart, both of Alpine and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins."

I wanted to include the following quotes from his mother: "He liked the adventure. He liked the excitement. He thrived on the training stuff they went through, pushing himself to the limit, seeing if he could take it." "We're coping with this, because he kind of had us prepared for it, and he died doing what he loved to do."

Finally, "I don't know if you can really ask for anything better. He was happy with his job, he was serving his country and that made him proud, and we're tremendously proud of him."
