Alfred Owen Blair was the son and second child of William Linville Blair and Sarah C. Brinson. After studying business at Tabor College in Tabor, Iowa, he married Ida Norwood Cleghorn on October 15, 1894, in Whiting, Iowa. They continued to live in Whiting while he completed a course in pharmacy at Des Moines. He was in the drug business about twelve years, then, on account of failing health, he became a traveling salesman. He joined the Christian Church at Whiting February 6, 1894, remaining a member the balance of his life. He was also a member of the modern woodsmen and the masonic lodges. He and Ida had no children.
