POQUOSON - Herman Richard Ammons, 63, a Peninsula resident since 1957 who was employed in the pipefitters department at Newport News Shipbuilding, died Monday, Feb. 7.
Mr. Ammons was an Army veteran of Korea and was a founder of the Ridge Runner Hunt Club. The native of Macon County, N.C., was a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church, Cullowhee, N.C.
Survived by a daughter, Julie Lynn Baker of Poquoson; four sons, Roger D. Ammons and Jackie E. Ammons of Gloucester, Gerald J. Ammons of Newport News and Samuel C. Ammons of Poquoson; six sisters, Alice Aikens of Tabb, Florence Bishop of Cullowhee, Ollie Peek and Ann Peek of Franklin, N.C., Kate Bishop of Lanexa and Leavern Phillips of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, R.V. Ammons of Seaford and Ernest Ammons and Earl Ammons of Cullowhee; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Funeral 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by Dr. J. Howard Tew. Burial in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
