My grandfather was the father of six children. Five girls and one boy. He worked for the railroad in Chicago. He was widowed at 67 and came to California with his son, Tom, to live with his daughter Grace and her family. He helped watch my aunts' kids while she and my uncle worked. My grandfather went back to Chicago to visit his other daughters' and their families. While there he suffered a stroke. When he came back to California, he and my uncle Tom moved in with my mom and dad and four kids. He went blind but he recovered pretty good from the stroke. I remember every night our big family sitting down to dinner. We had discussions on anything and everything. He smoked cigars every day and he would give us kids the rings from them. We still have the cigar boxes we would use for school projects. I remember kissing his bald head every night before I would go to sleep. One morning my parents came home from church and found my granddad on the bathroom floor. He suffered another major stroke this time. Now he couldn't walk, talk or do anything for himself. Eventually we had to put him in a nursing home that was about five minutes away from our home. We would go visit him every day but my grandfather was lonely. My grandfather was the only grandparent I had or knew. I miss him just as much today as when he went home to be with the Lord. I love you grandpa and some day we will see each other again.
I want to thank Nique from the bottom of my heart for sponsoring my grandfather's memorial. It means so much to me. THANK YOU.
Thank you Scott for taking the picture of my grandfather's headstone for me. I miss him so much. He was the only grandparent I knew so this really means alot to me. God bless you and thanks again.
