NEW BERLIN – Luella E. Baker, 100, of New Berlin, formerly of Port Allegany, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 in the Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.
Born Dec. 7, 1906, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Adelbert and Eugenia Smith Tarbox. On April 10, 1923, in Dunraven, she married Leon Baker, who passed away Feb. 7, 1955.
Mrs. Baker was a resident of the Port Allegany for many years, where she worked as a cook for the Greyhound Bus Terminal, Johnson Bakery both formerly of Port Allegany, and later owned and operated the Eldred Restaurant in the early 1960s.
She was a member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, now the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, where she taught Sunday School.
Surviving are daughters, Ruth V. Rickard, Joyce B. (Guy) Burr, Bette A. Baker.; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; two sons, Gerald L. Baker, James O. Baker; three daughters, Dorothy L. Johnson, Gladys G. Kester, Edith M. LaGrande; six brothers, Herman Tarbox, Harry Tarbox, Howard Tarbox, Harold Tarbox, Herbert Tarbox, Adelbert Tarbox, Jr. and five sisters, Velma McDonald, Florence Olmstead, Nina "Mimi" Crainer, Mary Dower and June Zandy.
Burial was in Kasson Cemetery, Haxelhurst, Pa.
