COAL VALLEY, Ill. - Barbara J. McAtee, 78, a resident of Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, formerly of Moline, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Oak Glen Home/Hope Creek activity fund.

Barbara Helling was born on January 9, 1931, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of Fredrick and Helen Nowak Helling. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1949. Barbara married Donald Van Wolvelaere in 1952 in Imperial Beach, Calif. She later married Hugh McAtee in 1963 in Aledo.

Barbara worked at the former International Harvester Corp., Farmall Works, Rock Island, for 25 years. She worked in the traffic department and was the first woman traffic manager. Barbara retired in 1985. She had also worked at the Quad City Downs from 1978 to 1984 and later at Kirkpatrick's Amoco, Moline.

She was a member of the Farmall Girl's Club, the Traffic Club and the Farmall Retirees. She served as a volunteer at the former Franciscan Hospital and currently was making the morning announcements at Oak Glen Home. Barbara's first interest was her family and she loved her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters dearly; they were the world to her.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tod and Kim Van Wolvelaere, Moline; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Dan Kyle, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Renee Dunkel and her husband, Todd, Satellite Beach, Fla., Ryan Van Wolvelaere and his wife, Diana, East Moline, Ashlee Gordon, St. Charles, Mo., Aoife Van Wolvelaere, Dublin, Ireland, Deirdre Van Wolvelaere, Midleton, Ireland, and Katlyn Van Wolvelaere, Moline; and great-granddaughters, Elysa and Peyton Van Wolvelaere, both of East Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Cory Van Wolvelaere, brother, Fredrick Helling, and former husband, Donald Van Wolvelaere.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Oak Glen Home and the nurses at Trinity Medical Center for the love and compassionate care shown to their mother.
