Funeral For Dr. Atkins At 5 P.M. Today – Prominent Physician Dies After Becoming Ill at Club Meet
Funeral services for Dr. William Lamar Atkins, 52, Shreveport physician who died suddenly at noon Friday while attending a Shreveport Rotary Club luncheon, will be held at 5 p.m. today at the chapel of the Osborn Funeral Home.
Dr. Atkins was seated at a table at the Washington-Youree Hotel with Dr. C. R. Gowen and Dr. George Wolfe, when he suffered a heart attack. On the way to the Rotary luncheon with Dr. Gowen he had complained of feeling ill. After the luncheon had started he told his companions that he would have to leave.
He was accompanied outside to the mezzanine by Dr. Gowen and Dr. Wolfe and placed on a couch. Dr. Gowen went to telephone his wife and call an ambulance and when he returned Dr. Atkins was dead. Death was attributed to coronary occlusion, Dr. Gowen said.

He resided with his family at 628 Columbia Avenue and was born at Athens, Claiborne Parish. A veteran of World War I, he was an active member of Lowe-McFarlane post of the American Legion and the 40 and Eight.

Atkins of Homer; three sisters, Mrs. A. L. Wallace, Mrs. C. B. Griffis of Rayville, and Mrs. James Rhodes of Alexandria; and a number of nieces and nephews.
