Unlimited Hydroplane Owner and Driver. He was a former automobile salesman who became one of the early pioneers of unlimited hydroplanes. He was the owner of the Slo-mo-shun IV and V hydroplanes which set world speed records in the early 1950s on Seattle's Lake Washington. A five time gold cup winner, Sayres is best known for his role in expanding hydroplane racing to Seattle and the West Coast. In 1957 he was honored by the Seattle Parks Department in the creation of Stan Sayres Memorial Park (Stan Sayres Pits), for his association with Seattle Seafair hydroplane racing.
