Betts, James C. Age 20. Residence Tipton, Cedar County, nativity Pennsylvania. Enlisted July 29, 1862, as Eighth Corporal. Mustered Aug. 29, 1862. Mustered out May 6, 1865, Davenport, Iowa.

James Coffey Betts was born in Pennsylvania, Aug. 29th, 1842 died at Mt. Vernon, Jan. 8th, 1916 aged 73 years, 4 months and 9 days.
His family moved to Davenport in 1844, and to Tipton in 1846.
He enlisted in 1862 in Co. B 24th Ia. infantry and served in the Civil War for three years. He moved to Mt. Vernon in 1893 and remained there until his death. After the death of his father, he cared for his brothers and sisters all the years he lived. He leaves of his immediate family to mourn him two sisters and a brother living in Mt. Vernon, and a sister Mrs. Anna Wilcox, of Cedar Rapids.
The interment was in the Masonic cemetery, by the G.A.R.
