MILTON-FREEWATER Carol Lorraine Brown, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at her Milton-Freewater home after a short battle with cancer. A celebration of her life with family and friends will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at the Junior Show grounds off Highway 11; a potluck dinner and stories will be shared.

Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Wakefield, Neb., to Chester and Fern Benton, the oldest of five children. She attended area schools in Allen, Neb., and graduated at the topa of her class in 1954. She moved west in the early 1960s.

While working at a radio station, she met and married Pete "Pecos Pete" Brown in Nampa, Idaho, in 1963. Later they moved with their family to the Pendleton area to run and later own KTIX radio station. They moved to the Milton-Freewater area in the late 1960s. She was an employee at many local businesses such as Key Electronics, she owned Four Season Fashions on Main Street and helped run Center for Sharing. She worked at local radio stations and finally operated a Washington State payee service before semi-retiring last year. She also was a devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Pecos Pete, at home; sons Leon Brown of Hermiston, Kevin Brown of the Touchet, Wash., area, Terry Brown of Walla Walla and Pete Brown Jr. of Milton-Freewater; daughter Chris Robert of Milton-Freewater; three granddaughters; brother Randall Benton and sister Merna Jones, both of Nebraska; and many, many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother and son John Brown.
