REV. GEORGE RAY MCDONALD, 77, of Brookhaven passed away on September 25, 2001, at King's Daughters Medical Center. Services are at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2001 at the First Church of the Nazarene with burial in Easthaven Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home.

The Rev. McDonald, 77, was born in Laurel on October 10, 1923, to George W. McDonald and Mittie C. Page McDonald. Ray as he was commonly known, grew up in Moselle, Mississippi. He also had a sister Mary McDonald, that was younger than him, not sure if she is still living?

He was a retired minister with over 30 years in the ministry. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his stepson, the Rev. Richard Manchester; his first wife Violet "Vi" Marie Brown McDonald.

Survivors are his second wife, Tillie McDonald of Brookhaven; his son, Barry McDonald; his stepsons, Clinton Manchester and Anthony Manchester, both of Decatur, Ala., and James Manchester of Destrehan, La.; his daughter, Mary Etheridge of Brookhaven; his daughter-in-law, Imogene Windmiller of Brookhaven; and a number of grandchildren.

Information from The Daily Leader, Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Rev. G.Ray McDonald as he was known was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene and pastored Nazarene churches in Angleton, Bay City & LaMarque, Texas and several others towns that I don't remember. After pastoring those churches for quite a number of years he became an Evangelist in the church most of which were Sunday School Revivals. One of his dear friends, Brother Charles Oliver, that was a pastor in the church on the Houston District of the Church of the Nazarene was elected as the District Superintendent of the Mississippi District & brought Brother McDonald to Mississippi to hold Sunday School Revivals in order to build up the churches. After that, he was elected as the pastor for the Brookhaven Church of the Nazarene and pastored there several years, then became a supply or fill in pastor where needed. Brother McDonald had such a colorful past is the reason I am documenting this information on His Memorial.
