Julia Bate

Julia Taylor Bate,
101, passed away at the Lexington Country Place on Sunday, November 14, 2010, in the presence of her daughter and son-in-law. Born September 11, 1909 at home in May's Lick, KY she was the only daughter of William Hayden Taylor and his wife, Malinda Ellen McDaniel. Her three brothers , Vernon, Charles, and Alfred Taylor preceded her in death. She attended school in May's Lick as well as in Maysville, while she recuperated from polio. Upon graduation from May's Lick High School in 1927, she attended Bowling Green Business University and completed the regular course study. She worked for the Kentucky Power Company's ofice in Maysville. It was there that she met the love of her life, another employee, Charles Thomas Bate, they were married on April 5, 1941. They enjoyed 29 years of a wonderful marriage before he passed on March 4, 1970. She returned to work at the Farmer's Mutual Insurance company in Maysville in 1955, and remained there until 1988, at which time she retired. In 1993 she left Maysville to move to Lexington to be near her daughter, Linda Bate Hirschfeld. While in Maysville, she and Charles were devoted Members of the Central Baptist Chruch, being very active in all aspects of the church life. When she moved to Lexington she promptly joined the Gardenside Baptist church. She is survived by her son, Dr. William S. Bate, married to Sue Riggert Bate, in San Diegeo, CA, and their three children: the edest being Clifton S. Bate and wife Jennifer, their three sons, Sebastian, Cormac, and Quiton, also of San Diego; Dr. Nicole Bate Pruitt and Dr. James H. Pruitt, and three daughters, Faith, Teagan, and Keileigh, of Corpus Christi, TX; and Thomas Andrew Bate and Jodie Bate, their two sons, Tyler and Carson, also of San Diego and her loving daughter Linda Bate Hirschfeld, who provided incredible nursing support, along with her husband, John K. Hirschfeld during the years she lived in Lexington, their daughter Melinda Hirschfeld Kirk and husband Wayne, their sons Travis and Dylan; and Melissa Hirschfeld Parsons and husband, Rodney Parsons, and son Clay. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Bluegrass, Lottie Moon Christmas Offering or building fund at the Central Baptist Church, Maysville, KY or the Kentucky Baptist Children's Homes. Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Central Baptist Church, Maysville, KY from 12 until 2 p.m. followed by the funeral service with internment to follow at the Hillcrest Garden of Memories. Officiating will be Dr. John Landon from the Gardenside Baptist Church in Lexington and Rev. Robert Donovan of the Central Baptist Church. Arrangements by the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home.
