Mass for Philip Pedi, 85, founder of his family's Chicago wholesale produce business and a produce salesman for more than 50 years, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, 4949 W. Patterson Ave. Mr. Pedi died Tuesday in his Northwest Side home. He retired 14 years ago, after 58 years in the produce business. He started selling fruits and vegetables in Chicago from a horse and cart when he was 13 and later introduced his brother to the business. They bought produce at the South Water Market and sold it to various clients, including Evanston Township High School. Many members of the Pedi family remain in the business. Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, Dr. Alfred; a daughter, Mary Jane Frystak; three sisters; two brothers, 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
