*THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, August 2, 1917: 'E. Abshire died at his home on South Twenty-Third street at 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning after a brief illness from paralysis. He was stricken last Friday, a week ago, but he had been in declining health for some time and it made the fourth stroke of paralysis to which he was subjected. The deceased was seventy-six years old and was born in Virginia, near Roanoke. He came to Texas thirty-three years ago and located near Prattville, Delta county, where he engaged in farming. After living there a number of years he moved to Lamar county and farmed in the Jennings community thirteen years. He moved from the farm to Paris nearly four years ago. He is survived by a wife, six sons and two daughters. The sons are D. F., C. E., and F. W. Abshire of Paris, E. L. Abshire of Kansas and J. O. and J. W. Abshire of Enloe. The daughters are Mrs. James Hutto and Miss Ella Abshire of Paris. The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock this morning at his late residence and will be conducted by Revs. J. L. Morris, T. L. Garrison and W. B. Kendall. He was an ex-Confederate soldier, and the members of Albert Sidney Johnston camp will attend the funeral.' *Index to TX Death Records 1903-1940 (microfilm): 'E.
