D. C. Stricklin, a leading turpentine operator of Valdosta, having interests at Metcalf, Boston and Blue Springs, died suddenly at his home in that city at midnight, Monday night. He had attended a moving picture show in the city, remaining up with his father-in-law, Mr. C. C. Jernigan, who went off on the 11 o'clock train.
Just before retiring Mr. Stricklin began to complain of shortness of breath and told his wife he was dying. He bade her and the other members of the family good-bye. He had one of his faithful servants called and commended her for her fidelity to the family and asked her to remain with them. Then he dropped back on the bed and expired.
He had been in unusually good spirits all day and insisted on frying some fish for supper "to show his father-in-law how good he could cook." His death was caused by apoplexy.
Several months ago, Mr. Stricklin underwent an operation which was unique in surgical history. He had tuberculosis of the spinal column and was carried to a hospital and a bone was taken from his leg and grafted into his back. He remained in the hospital four months and returned to Valdosta on crutches four months ago, but had almost completely recovered.
Mr. Stricklin had been married twice. His first wife was Miss Susie Ford, a daughter of the late John A. Ford, of Worth county. By her he has three sons, who are in the naval store business and two daughters. His last wife was Miss Josie Jernigan and by her he has four children.
The funeral passed through Tifton Wednesday morning en route to Sylvester, where Mr. Stricklin was buried Wednesday afternoon.
