AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Bahm, a native of Loranger (Osceola) Louisiana, had resided in Augusta since 1970. Funeral services will be held 2PM Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. He had retired from the Military Police Corps, US Army, in 1973 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He had served in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater of Operations during World War II, and was among the first troops entering Hiroshima after the drop of the atomic bomb. As a young enlisted man, he was selected to provide security for General MacArthur at the signing of the Japanese Peace Treaty on the USS Missouri at the end of the war. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. His awards include the Bronze Star (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Combat Infantry Badge (with 2 awards), the Vietnam Medal, Korean Medal and numerous military awards. Mr. Bahm was a former Deputy Sheriff, Richmond County and served as a Crime Prevention Analyst with the Provost Marshal Office at Fort Gordon as a civilian. He also was a long-time walker with Regency Mall and Augusta Mall Walkers, having been part of the original group that began in the early 80's at Regency Mall and then transferred to Augusta Mall when Regency closed. He was recently interviewed by the WW2 Chronicles in Washington, D.C. for inclusion in their library. The interview is based on excerpts from the Augusta Chronicle article of August 9, 2001 detailing his experiences during the Hiroshima Aftermath. Mr. Bahm was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elle Melanie; his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
