Excerpt from Ice Miller Donadio & Ryan 75th Anniversary (1910-1985) Commemorative Pamphlet

Emma Moore came to the firm from Central Business College on March 1, 1925. She became the fourth member of the stenographic staff. She was graduated from Shortridge High School and has lived most of her life in Indianapolis. The bankruptcy of the Cooperative League of America and United Home Builders was in progress in 1925, and for almost two years Miss Moore's work consisted primarily of typing protests to claims filed in the bankruptcies. In 1927 Mr. McCord decided to give her a try-out as his secretary, and she held that position until his death. At that time, she became the senior secretary with a general assignment in the bond section. She is an expert on the forms and proceedings used in the authorization, issuance, sale and delivery of municipal and taxing district bonds. She assisted all of the secretaries in this section and had much to do with the high standards maintained in the bond work.

She became guardian of the files on the date of her employment. Although for some years the firm had a file clerk, Miss Moore still made the files a concern of hers. Though the day-to-day work with the files had passed to other hands, she still felt the overall responsibility for them and provided the ideas for their organization and management.

Over the 52 year period, Miss Moore became the one about whom the secretarial staff was built. Not only the men in the bond department, but the office in general turned to her for assistance in finding a required form or an old record. Through her, new secretaries learned the routine of the office and got the answers to the problems of the proper style and usage. No organization was ever blessed with a more intelligent, willing and personable individual.

Miss Moore kept the records of the firm's investment funds. It was a major assignment. The requirement of individual investment records for a score of participants, as well as the income, gains and investments of the total fund, took much of her time.

Miss Moore has remained young in the sense of adapting to new techniques. When the office acquired MT/ST's-automatic typewriters to the uninitiated-Miss Moore quickly became most skilled in their operation. She set up forms for the municipal bond section which cut hours as well as error and proofreading from the production of trust indentures, bond proceedings and opinions.

In 1968 she was recognized as one of the "Outstanding Women Who Work" by the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. She had been that with the firm for 52 years when she retired September 15, 1977. She is still most active, being in the office at least once a month for the investment materials she still has charge of for individuals.
