Jennie was born in Mississippi to Andrew Jackson and Nan (Mahaffey) McCool. That McCools were prominent in Attala County is attested to by the town McCool, Mississippi. After her husband's death, Nan moved with her five children to Hopkins County, Texas; a sixth child was born after that wagon trip. Jennie Lee and her sister Mollie married brothers; Edward and Clarence Green.
