Lola Mae Green was born to Edward Bonner and Jennie McCool Green in Cumby, Hopkins County, Texas. She married Buddy Garrett on 27 June 1925 in Hollis, Harmon County, Oklahoma. She was the mother to three daughters, Lavelle (Dennis), Imadell (Carter), and Patsy (Weeks). She had 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, at the time of her death.

She died from an aggressive cancer in July 1975.

Lola's dad, Ed, was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Clarence Nathaniel and Anna Lois (Higgins) Green. Clarence Nathaniel was a Confederate soldier. Jennie was born in Mississippi to Andrew Jackson and Nan (Mahaffey) McCool. That McCools were prominent in Attala County is attested to by the town McCool, Mississippi. After her husband's death, Nan moved with her five children to Hopkins County, Texas; a sixth child was born after that wagon trip. Jennie Lee and her sister Mollie married brothers; Edward and Clarence Green.
