Speedy was my little granddaughter A's pet parakeet. She was a giveaway bird and came to live with them along with a cat and a cockatiel.

Speedy earned her name "Speedzilla" by being a fierce little fighter. If she felt threatened in any way, she would jump right in and peck!
She was also a handicapped bird, and that may be why she was so defensive. Her little feet and toes were malformed, but she was able to perch and move around quite normally.

We never knew how old she was, but when she had lived with A for about 3 years, it became necessary for the family to downsize pets, and we found a home for Speedy with a real budgie lover who welcomed her into the flock. She kept us supplied with news and pictures as our little friend went to live with her budgies and learn budgie talk. Since Speedy had lived with a cockatiel for years she didn't know how to speak parakeet!

When Speedy had been at her new home two years, she developed an abdominal tumor. The tumor just kept getting bigger and bigger. Speedy was a tough old bird right to the end. One of the last things she ever did was give her favorite bell a good hard whack.

We will all miss Speedy and her tough ways. She was a funny little bird.
