Tombstone reads "...was a member of the Baptist church about 30 years." Husband of Martha Melvennia Crawford.
While finding his way home during the Civil War, James crossed paths with some Union soldiers. They spared his life, but sliced the tendons in the back of his ankle with a knife. He walked with a severe limp until the day he died.
He dropped dead while working on his farm. Night fell, and he had yet to come in from the fields. His family went to search for him, and found him face down in the fields.
